Mailroom Manager – My Right-Hand – Operations Coordinator Position
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to highly recommend Alexis Velasquez, who served as my manager at the Rachel Carson College Mailroom for two academic quarters. During that time, I had the privilege of working closely with Alexis, and I can confidently say that they are an exceptional leader, mentor, and professional.
Alexis consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills and a deep commitment to the team’s success. A well-organized mailroom is essential for efficient handling of incoming and outgoing mail and packages, and Alexis excelled in restoring order and efficiency. When Alexis took on the role, the mailroom had been without a manager for two months, resulting in significant disarray. Through their proactive approach and organizational skills, Alexis not only restored order but also implemented sustainable systems that continue to benefit the mailroom.
One of Alexis’s key contributions was completely reworking the Google spreadsheet that held crucial information such as name-locker-combination details. The previous system was inadequate, lacking critical information such as students’ residential status or email addresses. Alexis took the initiative to spend weeks coding formulas to create a comprehensive master list that included student names, nicknames, emails, ID number, locker numbers, combinations, and residential status. This list was divided into various tabs, all accessible from the master page, which streamlined mail handling processes significantly. As well as introduce a “Missing Package” tab where students could fill out a form if their package was missing. This allowed staff to cross-reference records and follow up more effectively. Alexis emphasized the importance of maintaining a detailed record of everything that comes in and out of the mailroom, ensuring accountability and security for both packages and staff. Their approach empowered workers to take responsibility for ensuring that students received their packages promptly and correctly.
One of Alexis’s greatest strengths is their dedication to fostering growth and development among their team members. They regularly encouraged us to provide input and always took the time to run ideas by the team before implementing changes. Their ability to clearly communicate expectations, provide constructive feedback, and guide the team toward achieving our goals was truly commendable.I believe that any organization would greatly benefit from having Alexis as part of their leadership team. They bring a unique combination of skills, experience, and personal qualities that make them an outstanding manager. I am confident that they will continue to achieve great success in their future endeavors.

Raven Fonseca
Mailroom Assistant – My Former Employee – Operations Coordinator Position
Alexis arrived to fill the position of mailroom manager in the wake of Barbara, who had run the mailroom for the past two decades with the precision and kindness of a loving Mother. The mailroom was Barbara’s child. Alexis had enormous shoes to fill.
Alexis came into the position with limited training, since Barbara had already left by the time he came to work with us. In the beginning I worried that he would crack under the pressure. But he took on the task of running the mailroom with a relentlessly positive attitude, and was soon experimenting with new ways to make it run better. Not every change he made was immediately successful, but because Alexis always made it clear that everything was open to feedback, I felt comfortable to try his new strategies, and even offer ideas of my own. It would have been easy to just rely on the old system that had been in place for years, but Alexis made it a goal to try and streamline many of the more tedious tasks we had in the mailroom. He approached the job like a young entrepreneur, always looking to make improvements and prevent the mailroom from becoming dated and out of touch with the modern day, especially when it came to our digital organization.
What I always appreciated most about Alexis was that he was understanding. Every time I let him know that I had a conflict with work or was running behind, he didn’t respond with judgment or censure. His kind attitude actually made me want to show up on time and be more available, because it establishes a sense of trust and support between us. This was the most important quality to me in Alexis’s managerial skills.
I was shocked to find out, near the end of the year, that Alexis was also a student! I had thought the whole time that he was simply an adult employee. The fact that he managed to balance running the mailroom with a full load of classes is honestly beyond me. I believe he would make an excellent addition to any team.

Senior Tax Associate – Supervising Mentor – Tax Internship
I had the pleasure of working with Alexis when he interned at the accounting firm while I was a Tax Senior. I got to work closely with him on a few projects and one of the things I admired the most about him was his enthusiasm for learning. If there was something he was curious or unsure about while working on a project, he would not hesitate to ask questions. His ability to identify and ask the right questions was important for fast project turnaround. Alexis communicated well with our team on his availability and the status of projects which was crucial considering he was attending college while interning with us during busy season. I saw major improvements in Alexis’ work by the end of his internship. He brought a positive energy to our team and was a joy to work with.

Tax Associate II – Supervising Mentor – Tax Internship
I had the opportunity to work with Alexis while he was interning at ArmaninoLLP during the spring semester of 2023. During this time I was assigned as his intern MVP, a role designed to be a point of contact and help integrate interns into the firm. We met weekly in our work pod meetings as well as individually to check in on how things were going. We also had regular communication on various tax projects that were in process at
the time.
Alexis was wonderful to work with, I am thankful that I had the opportunity to cross paths with him. His technical knowledge was strong for his level and he picked up on tax concepts quickly. Overall work was thorough and timely, he is also good at knowing when to ask questions to keep the work moving. Our pod (Private Client Advisors) worked mostly on 1040s, 1041s and 709s…Alexis also had exposure to 1065s work from other pods as well.
Alexis also has strong communication skills and a positive attitude! He regularly
participated in discussion and activities in our pod. I was impressed with how he balanced
his college schedule and intern tax projects while maintaining such a great attitude.
I appreciated our weekly check-ins as they would often give me a lift in the day. I highly recommend Alexis and I am confident that he will add value to any firm.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Alexis during our internships at Armanino, and I can confidently say that he was a fantastic colleague. Over the three months we worked together, Alexis’s humor and approachable demeanor made the experience both enjoyable and productive. He was always ready to lend a hand and engage in discussions whenever we had questions, demonstrating an impressive level of support and collaboration. Alexis’s proactive communication skills, whether discussing scheduling issues or seeking clarity on tasks with managers, truly set him apart. His positive attitude and dedication to teamwork made a significant impact, and I wholeheartedly recommend him for any future endeavors.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Alexis Velasquez, a valued member of the Alisal High four-year Engineering Academy. Alexis has participated in the Engineering Academy for all four of the program’s years, so I’ve gotten to know him well.
Alexis has made many positive contributions in the Engineering Academy. Not only did he participate in the academy’s very own Business Development Program, he was also part of a team which went to Monterey once a month, collecting data for MBARI (the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute). During these MBARI trips they would send an ROV equipped with a Go-Pro down into the Monterey Business Wharf Wall, taking pictures of the wharf wall. Alexis and his team documented the number of Sea Anemone at different depth levels. Afterwards, they’d record the data in an MBARI spreadsheet for the scientists to analyze.
The Academy has a large collection of technical assets, Alexis was part of an IT tech team which helped manage some of the Academy’s tech issues. He’s helped troubleshoot some of the miscellaneous tools and machines that I use as part of our curriculum, such as our laser etcher, 3D printer, robotics, etc. Any issue I had, I’d come to him. He’s also helped with any issues that our computers and laptops would give us, maintaining them regularly by installing needed software.
Alexis is no stranger to robotics either, one of his projects involved building and programming a robot. As part of our curriculum, he had to wire a robot to small LED bulbs which lit up when reversing and moving forward, along with switches which on collision, would change the robot’s direction. He’d help his fellow students with any problems they were having since he was one of the first to finish.
Alexis has experience with using Autodesk Inventor, our 3D designing software, the Makerbot 3D printing software, and the laser etcher. His skill with Inventor is evident as he has used it to design a train and its tracks, animating it in the program, and finally bringing it to life with our 3D printer. Apart from this he has also created countless orders for clients of the Business Program using the 3D printer.
Speaking of the Academy’s Business Program, they sell custom 3D printed and laser etched products. As the President, Alexis handled a little bit of everything, he managed the orders, created the products, and took care of customer support. Alexis is also familiar with the Makerbot software and can design and create 3D projects. Apart from skills with hardware, Alexis has also demonstrated leadership qualities by taking charge and spurring the Program’s growth by beginning sales the year he joined. Alexis took it into his own hands to come up with some guidelines for custom products and a catalog as his very first contribution.
I’ve seen him fill the room with new members. He’s even organized sales campaigns where they sold products related to the holidays of the time. For example, on Valentines day, they sold 3D printed heart shaped cases with these little laser etched hearts on the inside! He’d always be working on something when he was in the room. As the advisor of the program, I made sure to make my classroom available for each of their projects. I’d see him come in as soon as the lunch bell rang every day, working on a new project for the club.
This young man has drive. He’s intelligent, passionate, persistent, and has all of the qualities of a leader. There is no doubt that Alexis will be the perfect candidate and, knowing him, will do a great job doing whatever he’s assigned to.
